ZARC

Our largest customer in terms of registry size and revenue in Southern Africa. We utilise our own registry technology, infrastructure and expertise to provide a full service registry solution, subject to agreed service levels and standards.

RyCE

The primary business objective of Registry Central Europe (RyCE) is to establish an RSP platform in Europe (Vienna), utilising our technology and know-how, to service existing and future geographic Top Level Domains and Austrian/German based dotBrand TLDs.

.ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA)

This solution is based on a technology license and service agreement, where we have deployed our registry technology on hardware owned and operated by the customer.

Registry Africa

This high-profile project, overseen by a pan-African multi-stakeholder steering committee, began in 2011. We were tasked with developing and managing the technical infrastructure for the .AFRICA gTLD, including its evaluation by ICANN.

The largest .ZA SLD is “CO.ZA”

The CO.ZA SLD, along with ORG.ZA, NET.ZA, and WEB.ZA, is managed by the ZA Registry Consortium (ZARC) via a Registry Service Provider (RSP) solution from us, handling approximately 1.4 million subordinate records.

Our SaaS products / services / offers

DNS is frequently sought for innovative solutions that address digital and economic disparities between the developing and developed worlds. As one of the few RSPs to successfully transition from ccTLD to gTLD environments, we excel in overcoming challenges that are particularly significant in the developing world. In order to bridge these divides, DNS has developed and deployed a variety of value-adding products and services that complement the traditional domain name registry environment.

GATEWAY SRS

Beyond domain registry services in Southern Africa, we specialize in delivering innovative domain products and services to local Registrars, Resellers, and Registrants. Our solutions aim to simplify access to domain products by eliminating barriers to entry. Recognizing the unique challenges in Registrar skills and capacity building across Africa, we launched our Gateway service for Reseller communities at gatewaysrs.com.

Rights Protection Mechanisms

Beyond the technical community, we have developed and delivered products and services for the broader domain industry. Currently, we are contracted by the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) to administer a domain name dispute resolution system under the Alternate Dispute Resolution Regulations for .ZA SLDs. SAIIPL is an accredited dispute resolution provider.

Mark Validation System

We successfully implemented a Mark Validation System (MVS) during the launch of ZACR’s delegated gTLDs. Designed to mimic the TMCH’s functionality, the MVS offered a cost-effective solution for local trademark and brand holders to validate priority rights during the Sunrise phase. The system can be configured and integrated into the DNSA registry, providing a centralized platform for validating priority rights or eligibility criteria, particularly useful for moderated domain spaces with multiple registrars.

Contention Resolution (Auctions)

We implemented a domain auction system during the launch of ZACR’s delegated gTLDs. This system resolved contentious claims for the same domain name after the Sunrise and Land Rush phases through a highest-bidder auction. Seamlessly integrated with the DNS Registry System, it required no additional customization from participating registrars and could also resolve contention for dropped names.

Strategic Direction (Licensing)

DNS’s licensing business model decentralizes individual registry operations and policies while centralizing core technical skills and resources. This approach offers several benefits:

1. Improved Quality: Standardized procedures, better supervision, access to specialized skills, and advanced software maintenance practices enhance core technology and services.
2. Reduced Costs: Specialist technical and business skills are deployed where needed, eliminating the need for registry operators to retain expensive software maintenance resources.
3. Technical Uniformity: Centralized control ensures consistent core technology across the global network, minimizing systematic errors and duplication of work.
4. Skills and Capacity Building: DNSA expands its expertise by addressing diverse challenges, fostering redundancy and specialization within its skills base.
5. Flexibility: Registry partners can focus on local business objectives without managing complex technical challenges.

From its central role, DNS oversees corrective, adaptive, perfective, and preventative maintenance, ensuring the registry technology evolves effectively.
